So what would happen if I tumble-dried a pair of jeans?

It says on the label not to - but I have one decent pair, am going out for tea with friends tonight and DS peed all over them yesterday when I took his nappy off before bathtime!

Will they shrink?

Mine seem to shrink but then expand again after being worn for a few hours.

I tumbledry mine all the time. Use the "low" setting.

dry using cold air -

I tumble mine on hot all the time - they need a lot of ironing afterwards, that's all.

Nothing!
I tumble dry every pair i've ever owned - they are pretty much indestructable!

I tumble dry mine on the synthetics setting as it doesnt get so hot. Also add a couple of sheets of fabric softener stuff... think its called Breeze or summat. Stops the creasing and they wont go cardboardy.
