How long does bleach take?

Trying to rescue a paint-splashed smart, non-iron, 100% cotton, white shirt. I've dabbed neat bleach on the stains. How long does bleach take to work?

It will probably rot the material or make it go pink.

What colour is the shirt?

takes seconds but might go yellow rather than white.

Seconds? Oh well, that's another expensive contribution to my ragbag.

Ime you can only get wet paint out of clothes - use water for emulsion and other water based paints and white spirit for oil based gloss.
