Decorating advice needed!

I am dreadful at interior design, I seem to have no idea what goes with what iykwim!! We are about to do out our lounge-diner and I would like to have a fireplace put in.

After shopping around ALOT lol we have found something we like that is a hole in the wall fire. However, it comes in black mirror effect, stone, bronze or graphite. With me so far??!!

DH LOVES the black mirror effect and to be honest I do too but I am not sure it is going to go with the furniture etc we already have. The living room & dining doors are stripped pine, the dresser in the dining room is an antiquey pine type colour and the dining room table is a darker pine colour too. In the living room we don't really have any furniture to consider but obviously you can see all the dining room furniture from it.

In a nutshell, if we had the black mirror fireplace is it going to look totally out of place if I carry on the mid-colour pine theme? We have a pale green carpet that has to stay as we have two small kids and I don't want to spend out loads on a new one!! Would you go for the stone effect fire instead of the black mirror effect even though we don't like it quite as much??

So sorry to waffle on but I have no idea about these things!! Any advice ladies??

If the black one is going to look completely out of place then it will spoil your enjoyment of it and you will end up not liking it i suspect!! with the furniture that you have i would suspect the stone or the bronze would be your best bet! If you are planning on changing the funiture/carpet in the nearish future then you could get the black and "live" with it until you do .... HTH

sorry meant to say - it does sounds as if the black would be ultra modern whereas your furniture is not so better to blend in with your current style.

I agree, stone would suit your present scheme better than black mirror. But maybe if you had the one DH really likes he may feel that new furniture is the next step.

Black mirror attracts dust like a magnet, whereas with stone it doesn't seem to show.

By the way, mines pine, natural colour marble and brass - sounds odd, but goes really well!

Always better to go with something that won't date on fireplace. The black one does sound like a fad iykwim! It might look good for a while, but far easier to change moveable furniture than a fireplace. I'd go for the stone.

I ave the most beautiful fire surround! Handcrafted with love! Dh made it and it is the crowning feature of our living room!

a black mirrored fireplace would look great in a very modern type house. You need very modern furniture to carry it off imo. With your carpet and stripped pine furniture I think you really need something more traditional-I would go for the stone.

Thank you so much ladies - I should have stuck to my instincts!!! Stone it will be then, thank you!
