They dropped our boxes this week, along with a leaflet telling us what we can and cannot put in, but I am unsure about a couple of things.

We have a blue box for paper, card etc and it says to squash all bozes down and tie the paper up, but it also says you can tape it all together. Do they mean sellotape though ?? or shall I just buy some string ??

We have a green box for glass and plastic. I am right in thinking that the plastic milk bottles can go in then aren't I ?? What about the tops though ? they are plastic too but it doesn't mention them. Oh and have just put empty vodka bottle in there, but what about the top for that ? thats metal/tin ?

we have to take tops off our plastic bottles as they cannot be recycled, only 'soft' plastics

JackieNo · 16/06/2007 11:23

I suspect all councils vary in exactly what they will recycle, especially when it comes to plastics, but I don't think many will do the lids. Ours used to do all sorts of plastics, but has recently gone to just accepting 'plastic bottles', for some reason.

Ahhh ok, will throw the tops in the normal bin then.

It's all a bit confusing isn't it until you get used to it.

We now have a day for normal rubbish, a day each fortnight for garden rubbish and a day each fortnight for recycling.

That must be confusing - we only have 2 separate days - same day each week for rubbish and most recycling, plus a different day once every 2 weeks for the garden waste and cardboard bin. And I'm generally in danger of forgetting that one.

We have our recycling colleceted every two weeks. They do not accept plastic lids, of celophane plastic, so no cling film or similar.

You et your bottles recycled? Cool, nothing like that for us, or garden waste either
