Mould stains can be “cleaned” off either via washing in machine or with detergent solution and a cloth' but the mould spores need killing - which is usually achieved by using bleach (suppose white vinegar could substitute).

To be honest, if this were me. I’d ditch the pillow and buy new, as it’s just more trouble than it’s worth. I’d never shake the feeling that it wasn’t clean and I’d suppose there is no way of knowing how far inside the the pillow the mould has gone.

It's on the mattress unfortunately, can't afford to just sling it.

I'd say it needs a good old airing everyday to stop it coming back. Pull back the sheet/protector and air the mattress. Maybe try diluted bleach and hot water to get rid. He'll have to sleep on the sofa for the night to let it dry! Smile

I'm not sure if it would work with mould but for wee, you spray on half white vinegar/ half water on to mattress, pat dry and then sprinkle with bicarbonate of soda and leave all day, vacuum off and stain usually gone? Think you might need bleach on mould, but not sure on quantities and if it would be safe to then bicarbonate of soda it?

i know you said can't afford it but i really would do everything i can to just chuck the mattress and buy new.

i had something similar.. not sure how the bed base got mouldy not blaming the builders at all but it had to go, im asthmatic and the moukd would have caused all sorts of issues.

hugoagogo · 22/10/2018 13:57

I'm asthmatic too. Haloween Sad
Also the mattress is only about 9 months old.

I have sprayed mould cleaner on it and scrubbed a bit, it is faded now and drying. The heating is on and the window open a crack.
Dh will have to kip in ds's room tonight.

Hoover/steam clean? What is the mattress made of, is there a cover?

TweedAddict · 22/10/2018 14:15

Mattress protector on the mattress once cleaned and wash every few days.

missmouse101 · 22/10/2018 14:16

Fresh bedding, air bed daily, dehumidifier in bedroom.
