Do you clean your fabric sofa?

This is a new thing that has come to my attention. I've been on this earth for over 30 years and I've only ever cleaned a sofa if something has been spilt on it.

Apparently it is a regular part of some people's cleaning routines.

Do you? If so...... How? & How often?

Oh by the way I hoover it on a regular basis but not wash/clean the material. I don't fancy taking the covers off to put in the washing machine 🙈

I wash our covers once a week with all the blankets and hoover every three days. Sounds excessive but we have three outdoor cats, three dogs, two children that stay regularly and often foster extra animals so it has to be done!

I know Mrs Hinch cleans hers, I think with a mix of washing powder and fabric softener in a bowl of water and a brush!

This isn't advisable, especially if you have any coatings on your fabric as softener will affect them. It also breaks fabric down over time.

I use just a carpet cleaner mousse on mine and don't over wet it when cleaning it.

Someone I know recently told me you shouldn't wash your sofa covers as this washes the fire retardant off them. I don't know how true this is but mine have been washed MANY times in the washing machine thanks to babies and animals.

I usually do mine with astonish spray - I think it is upholstery and carpet cleaner. I spray all over and then rub with a wet cloth.

I don't do mine that often because the sofa is constantly in use - best time is before bed but I can never be arsed!
