Dishwasher cutlery basket

Hi. My dishwasher cutlery basket's holes are too small for my spoons and forks. I am washing my cutlery by hand. Can I take the lid off the cutlery basket and put it in the dishwasher with the cutlery or will the cutlery just start falling out once the dishwasher is on.

Thanx

I do this, it's fine...

We took the lid off ours & the cutlery stays in there with no problems. We can also fit more in this way Wink although I know why it's there & has a purpose but we had the same problem. Some cutlery was just too big.

Thanx for the replies. Will try putting them in the basket without the lid. Thank u

Ours has a hinged grid which can be opened so the compartments are larger.

Our old dishwasher (bought in the 90s) had a lidless basket and it worked fine. New dishwasher has a tray which is fab - definitely look at that next time!

Will do Cynderella. Thanx

We took ours off for the same reason, it was fine. However when the machine packed up we switched to one with a tray, big, big mistake. It means less room for tall items, it's trickier to load and it doesn't get the cutlery as clean.

Cynderella · 14/10/2018 11:56

Oh, that's interesting, meetontheledge because we find cutlery washes well in the tray and that the bottom tray is much easier to load without a basket in the way!

Meet0nTheIedge · 14/10/2018 12:19

It really slows down loading for us, we all bring our plate and cutlery back from the table to put in the dushwasher and instead of just having the bottom drawer open for everyone to put their things in, each person now has to pull out the tray, put their cutlery in, close the tray, before putting their playe in the bottom drawer. There is nearly always some dirty cutlery, more if we have put large things in the top drawer. I'd definitely go back to a basket next time.

I have a cutlery tray now but everyone in my family just flings their cutlery at it and walks away with the result that much of the cutlery is dirty when taken out.I'm so glad i kept the baskets from our old washing machine as I now use both.

NearlySchoolTimeAgain · 16/10/2018 10:03

We’ve got a tray. I wish we’d kept the basket for the faff factor but it does get everything clean.

I’ve always removed the tops from the baskets.
