Cleaning rusty cast iron

I've managed to come by a big old cast iron stove type thing which I'd love to restore. It's quite rusty and all the tips for cleaning cast iron online involve 'baking' in the oven at high tempetatures - this is way too big to fit in my oven! I wondered if anyone had any tips for restoring cast iron which don't involve ovens? Thank you!

Steel wool OP. And fine sandpaper. Plus soapy water at the end.

Another vote for steel wool. The fine stuff. You can buy it in places like Wilko.

Went over it with brillo and white vinegar and it's come up really well already! Probably needs a bit nore elbow grease but a great start. Thanks for the recommendations!
