Hi,
I’m looking in to a sofa purchase and would like to know how you’ve made your decision? In particular fixed v removable covers! I’m a bit stuck on the pro’s and con’s and thought what better forum to ask than mumsnet! Fixed tend to look better for longer but one hint of sick, pee or p** and that’s it your reminded for a life time. Let alone adult spills!!! I want to be able to keep a sofa 🛋 for a long time, refresh, replace or even pass it on to family ( maybe with a new cover) but what are the downsides? What do I need to know?
Hope you can help...

If you have kids, animals or idiotic adults in your house then removable covers on a sofa is the best idea unless you want to pay for a professional sofa cleaner to visit monthly Grin

I've had all sorts over the years. I had sofas with removable covers, but they weren't ideal because:

  • they were difficult to get off and (especially) on
  • they faded a lot, particularly in areas subject to wear
  • a bugger to iron and looked awful if not ironed

Got leather now. Wish I'd had them when kids were small. Less cosy than fabric but much easier to keep clean.
