WTF?? Massive fleas?! Or something else??

Please could somebody help me identify this bug before I burn my fucking house down ? Found about 20 of them on my bedroom window, then another on my bed. Tried to squash one and the little fucker jumped about two feet away. Surely far too big to be fleas? And the cats are up to date with flea treatment anyway. I've hoovered all of them up - picture is of a dead one I just found on the kitchen floor, 5p for size. Shuddering a bit here, any help gratefully received!

Some kind of fly, not a flea.
I think.

Have you any trailing plants near your windows,?T
I was looking after my sons house which was up for sale as he moved abroad, and i found literally dozens of these on the living room floor and windowsills, it seems they got in somehow off a trailing overgrown plant which was spread on the outside wall near patio doors, and somehow got in
They were horrible, never saw anymore after the trailer was cut down

Google cluster flies. Harmless but revolting. I've hoovered them up or they return.

Could it be a cricket if it's jumping? Hoping fleas that big don't exist!

TarquinsMama · 26/09/2018 16:15

No, no plants close to the house. A couple of houseplants, but I can't see anything on them. Thought for a moment they were those little fruit flies, same sort of size, but I haven't seen them flying around, only jumping

I don't think crickets could be that small, could they? They're about 4 or 5 mm long. Def black not brown. Sort of shiny

Thanks Stanislas - they don't look like cluster flies, though - much more beetle like...

No idea then, but they definitely look like what i found, i was assuming they came off that trailing plant but might not have,
I hope you have managed to get rid of them all for good
They might have come down the chimney or through air vents
