New towels

I have some new black towels (predominantly for my hospital bag for when baby appears).

What's the best way to get them ready for use (ie remove the loose fluff and actually give them the ability to dry)?

I'm not very good at being a grown up...

give them a wash in the machine :))

Wash them without fabric conditioner. Tumble dry. Remove large amounts of fluff from filter.

Will I need to do it a few times? Pretty sure when I've bought new towels in the past they've been pants at drying until after a few washes?

What about fabric conditioner?
