Help, weird black things in carpet

Hi guys hopefully someone can help me.
I moved into a new build in May and have had a few problems which have slowly started to bring resolved but over the last couple weeks I have started finding these little black things in my carpet, they are only a couple mm in diameter and have like a plastic texture and they’re all exactly the same size and shape. Doesn’t look like a bug of any kind as they have no legs, wings etc.

I am worried as I have my 11 day old baby boy at home and want to ensure it’s nothing that can harm him.

Thanks

Could you try putting a photo of them on the thread? That might help people identify them.

CrimsonFootstool · 22/09/2018 10:38

Have you got pets?

weelis02 · 22/09/2018 10:41

Can you squish them? If you can it could be fleas?

HoleyCoMoley · 22/09/2018 10:43

Are they bobbles off the underlay or underneath the carpet, take a corner up and have a look, or maybe from some sort of packaging.

CanYouHearThat · 22/09/2018 10:44

Do they break apart easily, (i'm thinking mouse/rat poo) - sorry.

MeAndTheMajor · 22/09/2018 10:45

Does anybody in your house play sport on an astro type pitch? DH collects loads of little black bits like that in his boots and socks after playing and leaves a little trail round the house when he gets back. Could be that?

legocardsagain · 22/09/2018 10:47

Agree with @MeAndTheMajor we get this when DS goes to practice on AstroTurf

jhodgson1987 · 22/09/2018 10:55

How can I upload a picture?
They don’t break apart easily, I crushed one yesterday and have to use a small block of wood against the kitchen surfaces and when it cracked open just a little bit of substance was inside.
We have a dog but have had this dog for years and never found anything like this in the previous house although we had laminate in that house and it appears to only be on the carpet.
No one plays sport on Astro turf

I'm thinking along the same lines CanYouHearThat - we moved house last year and I started seeing this as well on our lounge carpet, mainly round the edge of the room. Confirmed mice by putting traps down. We now have a cat and no further signs of mice!

weelis02 · 22/09/2018 11:02

What colour is the substance that came out of them?

jhodgson1987 · 22/09/2018 11:30

I have found them all over and mainly in the centre of the rooms. Doesn’t look or feel like mouse droppings.

It was like a creamy colour inside.
They look more like seeds but like I said you have to apply a lot of force to crush them.

I have a photo but don’t know how to upload it?

When you click reply you should see this photo, the little attach icon next to the T will let you upload a pic

This is a photo of the wee things OP is talking about. They asked me to post a pic up of them

No idea, they look like seeds

jhodgson1987 · 22/09/2018 13:16

Thank you weelis02.

This is what I'm talking about, they're all the same in size and have like a shiny smooth black texture.

Can anyone help?

I agree with Holey they look like seeds. Do you wear shoes in there? Colud they be being picjed up on the path outside then coming out of the treads?

jhodgson1987 · 22/09/2018 13:30

We try not to wear our shoes on the carpet but a couple of times this has happened.
I was thinking it could be seeds from outside as I hover and then more appear but wanted to ensure it wasn't anything more

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 22/09/2018 13:35

I don't think they're anything sinister. They look too uniform.

Sorry about the spelling in my last post, I'm being jumped on by a happy 1yo Hmm

andreasfault · 22/09/2018 13:52

Soak a couple in a saucer of water and see what happens

jhodgson1987 · 22/09/2018 16:41

I will try soaking them.
Thank you

please post a pic with a coin next to them so we can see scale.

Are there houseplants in the room?

they seem to have a tuft on one end. I'm thinking tiny fruit. I have a baytree that has little round things on it (not black though).
