How often do people clean?... Am I a slob?!

How often do people clean?
I generally do dishes and laundry when a small pile appears (3-4 items)
I hoover, mop change bedding and dust etc once a week on a Sunday (work 40 hours a week, volunteer and am doing a degree so not alot of free time)
Tbh I probably only clean my fridge and windows etc when they look dirty Blush how does this compare to eveyone else?Does this sound about right or am I being a bit of a slob? I live alone with a cat, whose litter tray is emptied every 3rd day or so.

Sounds fine to me.

I've only done a lot of housework since having kids.

ShalomJackie · 19/09/2018 22:22

You do laundry for 3- 4 items?? That is a tiny amount unless you handwash!

DaniC18 · 19/09/2018 22:24

ShalomJackie
Yeah but I generally chuck in some towels and bedding aswell

Why would you think you might be being a bit of a slob?

DaniC18 · 19/09/2018 22:29

Sounds fine. I dust once a week. Put a wash on daily. Hoover every other day. Bedding changed every 2 weeks.
4 of us in house and work full time

Not a slob at all. Never had a cat so can’t comment on the litter tray as I have clue.

We have fluff machines masquerading as dogs so we should vacuum daily. In reality it usually happens 6 times per week. Bathroom gets a quick flick over daily and an actual clean weekly. Fridge, well the less said the better really. If you are concerned about fridge smells then put a pot of either used coffee grounds if you drink fresh, or bicarbonate of soda in there.

I’m currently fighting the urge to disinfect from top to bottom every hour because one of the dogs has MRSA on her paws.

3 of us, DH works full time, I volunteer part time and DD works part time. We do laundry whenever there's enough for a load (about every 2-3 days), hoover downstairs about once a week unless it looks messy, hoover the bedrooms about every two weeks or so. Mop the kitchen if it looks like it needs it, otherwise I just spray and spot clean.
Dust when I see fingerprints in it (no I'm not joking) so about once every week or so. Dishes go in the dishwasher and it's run every day or two. Litter tray is scooped when there's a few poo's in it - maybe once or twice a week? Life is too bloody short to worry about housework.

itsallgravybaby · 19/09/2018 22:57

If you're a slob I have no idea what that makes me... cleaner comes every fortnight and does bathroom, hoovers and mops. I do laundry once a week and only general tidying in between cleaner visits.

I can't remember the last time I hoovered as it gets done fortnightly Blush

wildewillow · 19/09/2018 23:06

You're definitely not a slob! Sounds quite normal to me.

Clothes laundry once a week. Try to change bedding every week. We have laminate floors so I sweep every other day and hoover once a week, sometimes every other week. I clean the bathroom fully once a week, clean toilet and shower daily after use. Kitchen gets a wipe down after meals which generally keeps on top of it. Washing up is husbands job so gets left and left and left till I cave and do it myself in a strop.

Cat litter trays (indoor cat, 2 trays because she's fussy and can't wee and poo in same one) get changed every other day. I'd leave it longer if she didn't wee in the dining room if I didnt.

SpikyCactus · 19/09/2018 23:13

I hoover once a week in the living area and only do the other rooms when they look dirty. Press the button on the dishwasher when it’s full. Put on a wash when I have enough for a full load (every couple of days). Change the bed when I remember and can be bothered.

Quite often I just spritz air freshener and reposition stuff so DP thinks I’ve cleaned. It isn’t high on my list of priorities.

DaniC18 · 20/09/2018 18:17

Thanks everyone for the replies! I'm starting to think I am just surrounded by clean freaks IRL lol everyone I'm at a friend's or relative's house they are tidying! I feel so much better about myself now lol x

I just do stuff when I can see it needs doing. Hoovering prob twice a week, kitchen work surfaces, washing up etc every day, dusting occasionally, bathrooms prob once a week. Dirty mareShock. Sorry, better things to do with my time.

Kool4katz · 20/09/2018 18:51

I do bedding about once a fortnight. Or sometimes longer. I hate cleaning and do it in bursts then nothing for ages.

JLG19 · 20/09/2018 18:55

You're a clean freak compared to me Grin

Singlenotsingle · 20/09/2018 18:59

A friend of mine decided many years ago that she hated housework and cleaning. She said she was happy to go back to work, provided they got a cleaner in. This was 40 years ago, and the "lady who does", still does.

Gwenhwyfar · 20/09/2018 20:33

Before I got to the end of your OP I thought you had a family. This is more than necessary for a person living alone.
I do the dishes when there's a full load - can take a few days
Laundry only one load a week. I don't think you need to change sheets every week, but then again I wear full pyjamas in bed.
Dusting and hoovering only every 2-3 weeks. Seems to be enough. Mopping even less often.
Windows, fridge, etc. as you say only when they look dirty.

I think you could take every other Sunday off and still be clean enough.

inthekitchensink · 21/09/2018 20:16

Mini handheld hoover & a quick wipe of kitchen & bathroom floors daily, a big squirt of antibacterial spray, empty the bins and ta da

Moody123 · 23/09/2018 19:12

3 of us, we do the dishwasher most days, and a washer load every other day, hoover once a week (change beds once a fortnight)
Dust and mop when ever I can, sometimes only once a month (we have an 18 month old)

seventhgonickname · 25/09/2018 17:52

I hoover when the carpets look as if they need it,dust on the same principle.
I do washes on a Friday as need to get dds uniform washed,do it when I have full loads when she's not at school.
Bedding ,she changes her 1-2 weekly, mine gets done when I think it needs it.
Toilets cleaned every other day, shower whipped after use.
Dining room is a creative mess as DD is using it for art but it does need a sort.
The kitchen is the one room I keep really clean ,it is tiny so needs to be kept clean and as clear as possible.I am let down by the cats as they have mats but prefer to eat off the floor!
