Our old dyson is quite heavy to lug up and down our three flights of stairs (Edwardian terrace, not a mansion!). Have toyed with getting a gtech but some bad reviews have put me off. Anyone out there got one that they love?

The new Dyson! V10 I think. It’s great.

cheeseandcrackers · 15/09/2018 10:20

Absolutely love my Dyson V6 cordless. Worth every penny. Need somewhere suitable to wall-mount, but it changed the way I vacuum completely.

feltcarrot · 15/09/2018 10:43

Thank you, will check those out!

Yeah new Dyson 👍👍

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 11:12

We’ve got a dyson V8 and I love it. Rarely pull out the big dyson any more.

Beesandfrogsandfleas · 15/09/2018 11:13

Love my Gtech. Have just replaced one that was broken (due to being banged by dh, not a mechanical fault).

frecklemcspeckles · 15/09/2018 11:13

I have Dyson v6 and the gtec. Dyson is way better for stairs etc but gtec is definitely superior at lifting larger items without clogging and in my opinion gets much deeper into the the carpet pile.

I saw the new shark duo advertised and think it could be a great mixture of the Dyson for handheld and stairs and gtec for everything else.

TittyGolightly · 15/09/2018 11:19

Just bought a shark. Its bloody amazing (and £200 cheaper at Costco than buying direct). It has headlights. Grin

Going to have a ceremonial smash up of the —shitty Brexit supporting dysons— to celebrate!

TittyGolightly · 15/09/2018 11:20

The shark duo, is indeed, the absolute bollocks.

“Vacuuuuum shark, doo doo doo doo doo doo, vacuuuuuum shark, doo doo doo doo doo doo.......”

I've had a Dyson for the last 15 years, and recently got a cordless Dyson (I think it's the V8, was the dearest one).
I'm impressed by its suction, I don't vacuum as often as I should and it does a brilliant job on my carpets. We have three dogs and I have horses so all.sorts of bits drop off my clothes Blush.
I find the battery lasts fine.
The downsides for me are;
How often I need to empty the cannister during cleaning (but obviously I'd do that less if I cleaned more often).
I get a static shock if my hand touches the power jack socket. I googled and apparently that's common. So I wear a rubber glove.
I find it heavy to hold when doing the stairs, I preferred my old "stair hugger " as most of the weight was on the cylinder, not in my hand.

mommybear1 · 15/09/2018 16:08

Bosch athlet brilliant - washable filters and a charge gives over an hour's worth of vacuuming.

Rafflesway · 15/09/2018 16:24

Just a word of warning 're GTech!

I bought the new GTech pro shortly following its release earlier this year. Initially loved it but the battery proved REALLY unreliable. Had 3 new batteries within 5 weeks - all the same issue.Sad

When I rang to say the third battery was not holding the charge either, they suggested they then send me a new head. I refused - by this time I didn't trust the vacuum would last - and said i would like to return for a full refund. They originally told me this wouldn't be possible as I had the machine over 30 days so I politely reminded them about the Sale of Goods Act and they quickly relented.

Have since returned to my very non fancy cordless Murphy Richards 2 in 1. Smile

Rafflesway · 15/09/2018 16:25

Morphy - autocorrect!!

jmh740 · 18/09/2018 13:43

I love my shark but wish I'd got an extra battery for it.

flopsyrabbit1 · 18/09/2018 15:53

Dyson V7 bloody great and very light

Rafflesway · 26/09/2018 19:39

Mommybear I really fancied the Bosch Athlet - I am a BIG Bosch fan - but I need to use the tools for cleaning narrow areas and I read loads of reviews saying the tools were horrendous to change on the machine. 🙁

Would be really interested to hear if you use the additional tools and how difficult you find them to attach/release?

Smallinthesmoke · 26/09/2018 19:55

Bosch Athlet works fine in short term but I found it rapidly lost battery power and hardly worked after 15 months or so.
If you read reviews, make sure they are from people who have used the machine for a decent amount of time. I would only now buy a machine with a replaceable battery.

CharlieBoo · 26/09/2018 22:21

Dyson v7... life changing

Rafflesway · 27/09/2018 11:26

Thanks Smallin!

To be honest, although I love cordless machines, after my experience with the Gtech I am very nervous of anything that uses actual batteries.

My trusty old Murphy Richards I have had for 3 years now and it recharges via a docking unit rather than batteries if that makes sense. Never had a single issue with it and it cost less than £100. Good tools too! I have just bought my dd a Shark corded
Rose gold stick for her apartment. It cleans brilliantly but weighs a ton!

Rafflesway · 27/09/2018 11:27

Flaming autocorrect again! Morphy

3boysNeedABiggerKitchen · 27/09/2018 11:28

Shark. Love it. It has headlights Glitterball

BegoneWeeds · 27/09/2018 11:29

If on a budget the Morphy Richards 2 n 1 is indeed great for less than £100. I love the lights on it - really highlights the dust!

Madcats · 27/09/2018 11:41

Can anybody give me some reassurances about battery life on these new machines? I fail to do the "little and often" approach so I need something that can tackle more than one or 2 rooms.

I have an elderly Dyson DC 34 (2010?) that I am beginning to hate because it seems to take hours to charge and then the battery dies before I have finished vacuuming the stairs.

Tinkhasflown · 27/09/2018 11:46

I've had a few cordless ones. Very old dyson which was crap. A gtech cordless sweeper that I liked but it fell apart after about 2 years. A vax cordless which was crap.

I now have the dyson v10 and it is bloody brilliant! The 3 month money back guarantee from Dyson swayed me and there was no way it was going back.

HarvestMoon9 · 27/09/2018 12:23

Definitely the new Dyson V10. I’m impressed/horrified by how much it picks up- I was vacuuming our living room every day with my old corded Dyson but when I used the V10 for the first time I had to empty it 4 times doing that room alone!
