Slimline dishwasher

Hi All, I have just bought a slimline dishwasher and am worried about constantly being able to taste the residue of the Tesco 3 in 1 tablets I have been using. Could this be a problem with it being slimline when the tablets are designed for full size machines? Do i need to run an extra cycle without detergent? I am not happy at all about ingesting any of the chemicals in the detergent and am thinking of going back to the old ways of hand washing. Any advice would be most welcome.

We have a slimline dishwasher and use Fairy platinum pods and this has never been an issue .

Tinywhale · 13/09/2018 00:42

I’ve never had this problem. I would have thought the rinse should get rid of it, whatever the original concentration. Perhaps try a different brand of tablet. If it keeps happening I would wonder if the machine is faulty.

I find Fairy by far the best the brand.

I haven’t noticed a difference between a slimline and full size washer.

BakedBeans47 · 13/09/2018 00:45

And yes the fairy pods are super. Next best I find smartprice or basics tablets!

Or you could try and cut the detergent in half. I do that with non “pod” type dishwasher tablets because I’m a cheap skate

I tried a few different brands of tablet for the same reason (Finish, Ecover and Fairy). The Finish leave by far the least chemical taste of those three. You could try Finish?

My dishwasher is slimline as well. I looked up this problem and if I hadn't settled on the Finish tablets my next step was to buy dishwasher powder as that way you could easily put less in.

I think different people must be sensitive to different formulations as I found the Fairy worst of all! The whole house smelled of dishwasher tablet fragrance. But I have to say that Fairy gave the best cleaning without a shadow of a doubt.

Tinywhale · 13/09/2018 01:09

Yes, the problem I had with Finish is that they didn't do any actual cleaning!

Thank you all for your advice.
I have also asked my friends and now have 4 different brands to try as well as your recommendations.

I have a slimline and use the Tesco tablets. Blue and white with a yellow circle in the middle. Can't say I've ever been able to taste them and I only ever use a quick wash

Lemon dishwasher tablets do tend to taint things; especially plastic tubs.
We use dishwasher powder ( finish/ Sainsbury) which is more economical and works better. Ime

I've never noticed a problem with ours and we use the cheapest tablets going.
