Just want a reasonably priced, lightweight vacuum cleaner that works, what do you use?

My old vac is at the end of it's life and now far too heavy for what we need so I want to replace it with something economical, lightweight and efficient. I really can't afford to spend hundreds of pounds on something like a dyson but want something that does the job!
Can anyone help? Need to get one asap.

Whats the budget to help people give you ideas in the price range?

The G-Tech air ram is only £199.99 and pretty good and very lightweight compared to my dyson

Thanks fromtheshires, ideally no more than around £150. Less would be best but could stretch to that if necessary.

Vax do some cordless ones for your budget and under but as I've never used them i cant vouch for their effectiveness.

Vax is a well known brand though so they shouldn't be pants - in theory!

I bought a Hoover FD22L Freedom Lite a couple of weeks ago. I think it was about £90 from Argos and it's brilliant.

I got a super cheap Bissel, about £40, when my big expensive Vax was in for repairs.
Now I use it all the time. Good suction, very light, easy to empty and clean.

I love my shark - wasn't too expensive. And has headlights so you can see under the bed.

I have a Shark (corded) very lightweight , only downside is the vacuum head comes off (its meant to so you can remove the suction tube to make a handheld) because the suction is strong.

My DParents have the GTec (I ordered it fro QVC , it was £150 which was pretty good) . No cord, easy to charge , lightweight and really effective .

Henry Turbo Compact.
Smaller and lighter than the full sized Henry but very powerful and comes with the extra turbo brush for carpets
