Carpet cleaner

I know there have been posts on this before but the ones I've read are all quite old. Recommendations please for domestic carpet cleaners. And before I have suggestions to get the carpets cleaned professionally, the property is a remote cottage in the Scottish highlands. It's hard enough getting a qualified electrician let alone a carpet cleaner. We let the cottage so something that will give a quick and thorough spruce of the carpets every so often will be really good.

I guess you can't hire a Rug Doctor then :). We use Vanish carpet foam, works well on ours.

I guess I should have said an electric carpet cleaning machine!

Another vote for vanish foam and a hoover!

We got a Vax via the local paper, which seems to work well enough.

This might be too, late for you but we have a Shark Duo hard floor and carpet cleaner. I don’t like it for hard floors - we have glossy ceramic tiles and it leaves them smeary, but for carpets it is very good indeed. We recently held a large party on a wet and rainy day and our pale carpets were wrecked. Someone bumped into our cleaner the next day and told her she would have to work overtime to fix them! When she turned up she was amazed that they looked pristine - all thanks to the Shark.
