And preferably one that does it itself 😀

Definitely a steam generator iron.

I have a Russell Hobbs iron which was about 15 quid from Amazon. It is about 6 months old and fine. I use it once a week for about 15 min to iron school shirts for the week ahead - most other laundry is folded and put away. IME no iron will last much more than 12 months before stating to leak, hence low budget options all the way here!

The JML Phoenix iron is the best I've ever had, and wasn't expensive. But it goes uses a lot of water, far more than other irons.
