Shark LiftAway and long haired dog

We've a long haired collie who seems to shake and leave a cloud of dog hair. Previously we had a Dyson which was superb but the brush bit broke - nothing to do with dog hair, we had an old carpet that came with the house and was fraying and one day it sucked miles of fraying end up and jammed, and DH has taken it apart to fix...about 3 years ago, it's still in kit form. We also have a George, but that tends to collect the dog hair on the brush and you have to lift the end up and pick the clumps of hair off or it all sucks up in one go and can block the exit into the dust collector.

SO I heard a lot of people saying the Shark was best for dog hair - it is getting dust out of the carpet but not the dog hair - it leaves it in clumps on the surface of the carpet. What am I doing wrong or have I wasted my money?

Have discovered it's the switch, it doesn't 'click' to the carpet position. I can send it back.

As you were: ignore this post.
