clean out the filter?

McDreamy · 03/06/2007 16:42

Leave the door open over night so it dries out? Put half a lemon in it at the same time - but remember to take it out before you do the next wash? Or how about putting on of those tumble drier sheets in?

get something called HG service engineer from lakeland. shove it in the powder drawer stick it on a 60 wash problem solved!

foxinsocks · 03/06/2007 16:43

this should be in mumsnet top 10 asked questions

if you search the archives, there are loads of posts on this

but basically, if you use liquid, switch to powder

run a boil wash

and do something or other with vinegar or soda crystals or something like that - can't remember. Someone else will or it's in the archives!

Wipe around the seal on the door. Lift it up so you can get in the grooves. You'll probably find lots of lovely black gunk. Nice.

And run a hot (60 degrees at least) wash with nothing in the machine.

DaisysGotSausageFeet · 03/06/2007 16:44

ours was doing that....partly the filter and partly cloged drains.

We also found that the liquid tablets we'd been using were leaving a messy residue that builds up into a nasty smelly scum in the filter. We've stopped using them (just using liquid that we measure out ourselves) and the problem is solved.

I've found that the problem with using powder in new machines is that as they use so little water the powder often doesn't dissolve properly.

My machine is a new AEG but it's the smelliest I've ever had!

the 60 wash may be a problem as it's been jammed on 40 for months, but will do everything else - thanks -never had such prompt replies!
