Cleaned the carpet, disturbed the smell!

A few weeks ago DD had a horrible vomiting bug that the majority of ended up on our living room carpet!
I scrubbed the carpet with soapy water and put bicarb of soda down, all was well.
I decided to borrow my sisters carpet shampooer to give it a freshen up while I have a few days to myself...
oh god i’ve disturbed the smell! It absolutely stinks of vomit and nothing i’m trying is getting rid of it!
Any advice guys? How do I get rid of it!

A zoflora solution works on puke smells

I do have a tiny bit of zoflora left. Just put bicarb down again and opened all the windows

I’m just baffled as to how the smell went away for weeks! And now i’ve shampooed the carpet properly it’s back with a stinky vengeance!

Could the smell have come from a poorly cleaned machine?

I’m not too sure, it brought the rest of the carpet up lovely and gave it a fresh smell. Just that patch that I disturbed. It doesn’t seem as bad today, but I am routinely spraying my DIY febreeze on the nets and curtains

has the vom gone down into the underlay?
that would explain the smell. and no amount of treatment will help.

Those machines tend to leave some water in the carpets, this will have given a “fresh” lease of life to the previously dry vomit.

Make up a mix of water and vinegar and saturate the spot where the vomit is. Let it sit for an hour then get some dry towels and stomp on them on the spot to get as much moisture out as possible. Really stomp and change for a dry towel once one is damp. When it’s as dry as you can get it sprinkle a load of bicarb on it and work it in really well with a brush or cloth. Leave it over night and then hoover. Have a good whiff and see if you need to repeat the process.

50:50 water:vinegar.

White vinegar/water soak followed by a mixture of zoflora and bicarb into a paste texture, spread it over the area, leave for 30 mins then hoover it up. Then spray 1001 (Thai orchid and passion fruit is amazing) for a nice smell :-)

You could use something like Simple Solution Pet stain and odour - it is very effective. You just saturate the affected area and let it dry. Works on vomit.

Spray with white vinegar then cover with a shed load of baking soda (I got a massive tub from amazon)
Leave it overnight at least then hoover x
