Clothes washing and septic tank

Hi, we've recently moved into a house with a septic tank and I know there are various dos and don'ts with cleaning products as these could harm the tank, including having to use non bio washing liquid in the washing machine. I'm really struggling with washing clothes as I have two rather smelly teenage boys and non bio liquid just isn't getting clothes clean and they still smell pretty sweaty. Any advice on decent products that are septic tank friendly? Thanks

I have lived with septic tank type systems for 30 years. I generally haven't paid much attention to the detergents I use but I am aware that I do use a lot less than the recommended amounts on the packaging. I use Bio always and powder mostly BTW. I use bleach very sparingly too.

Some septic tanks/water treatment plants are more forgiving than others. Do you know the type you have so you can search for specific advice?

I’ve used non bio liquid for years with septic tanks Generally I don’t use bleach or too much loo cleaner. If there’s plenty of bath/shower water going through it should be fine.
It does depend what type of system you have but most are quite forgiving especially if they’re pumped out every 18 months or so.

I have a septic tank and i never pay attention to what i use. Im the “if its on offer, then I’ll buy it “ kinda girl.

I very sparingly use bleach but not so fussy with detergents and we've never had a problem.

Thanks everyone, perhaps I'm overthinking it and I need to relax a bit! As far as I know, it's an 'onion' shaped tank which has a soakaway for the fluids and the solids get pumped out every year or so. I use bleach occasionally and cleaning wise everything seems to be fine, it's just wiffy clothes I'm struggling with! I'll try bio for a bit and see how that goes.
