Holey clothes

I don't know if anyone has any ideas about this but my partners t-shirts get small holes in the front of them.
At first he put it down to his washing machine, but it has happened again with a new t-shirt that has only been washed in my machine (I have no problems with my clothes) so it doesn't look like it is the machine. He hasn't been wearing a coat lately because of the weather, so that knocked that theory on the head.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Either it will be the worksurface/work bench pressing against his belt buckle and wearing through the fabric, or if you always fold them so that side is outward it could be moths. I would say option one is more likely.

Blooming belt buckle! Keep asking my husband to tuck shirts in but he says it looks silly (but holey shirts don’t?! Hmm) - I’ve given up mending them as they just get wrecked again.

Thank you that is what I thought too, will tell him to tuck his shirts in.
