Cost effective mattress?

I'm looking for a new mattress but no idea what to get.
What's the best for support and comfort AND at a reasonable price?
I like a firm mattress but not with springs that jab you or too soft and end up hurting.
Ideas please?

Just bought the Kindred mattress recommended from Dreams, so far so good, wouldn't have gone for it if hadn't read the reviews.
