Loving cleaning/housekeeping

Hi

I'm getting more and more frustrated with and absolutely loathing cleaning the house and general housekeeping and admin. I need a kick up the bum and a mindset change.

If you honestly actually like (even love?!?!) cleaning and looking after the house, what do you actually like about it? I'm hoping I can start to see it in a new way, as it isn't going away anytime soon, and if you can't beat em, join em.

The satisfaction after it's done! Feels so good Grin

Pathetic I know but I love trying different cleaning products and seeing the results so buying a different range usually makes me want to try! Once you get going it’s quite enjoyable

I've bumped a thread for you about things we find satisfying about housekeeping. It helps to take the focus off the negative.

Thanks Enervator

Clear surfaces. It's mentally very good for me. Feeling organised.

Mind you it's easy to motivate me. I work in child protection and deal with neglect. It only takes one visit to a house with neglect to get me dashing home to throw zoflora around

Audiobook! Literally changed my life (and my home). I was a SAHM who loathed housekeeping & found it boring beyond belief.

Now once I have the items below I actually look forward to it.
A good set of Bluetooth headphones - no cords to get tangled on things.
An audiobook or podcast on my phone
Comfortable rubber gloves

Summer holidays are a pain, husband is a teacher & kids at home so I'm literally never alone. I can't potter around with headphones on ignoring them. The house is a tip & I'm craving peace & quiet!

I don't love cleaning but I absolutely love keeping a clean house. It's so much easier to clean a regularly cleaned house. It bugs me more to sit noticing that the house needs to be cleaned than it does to clean it and be done with it. I love the smell. I like that I'm good at it. I love it that my home gets compliments about how cosy and comfortable it is. I'm what used to be called house proud.

Use good products that do a good job. I don't have a wide range of stuff but my few things get the job done.

BrutusMcDogface · 04/08/2018 12:20

i hate it too. And I'm rubbish at it. I'm currently looking into getting a one off deep clean to "reset" the house, make me like it again, and then try and keep on top of it.

Enervator · 04/08/2018 14:12

dudsville any product recommendations?

I've decided that I DO care how the house looks / feels so I need to put the work in.

PickAChew · 04/08/2018 14:29

I hate cleaning. I hate that it exacerbates my joint pain.

I like clean, though.

I like watching cleaning clips on Youtube sometimes for motivation. Diane in Denmark has a channel and she does the Flylady system but in Denmark so it just seems more exotic. Also Myka Stauffer altho she is annoying to listen to but shows exactly what she does for her cleaning routine. "Work before play" works for me too, not letting myself fall into the rabbit hole of the internet until I've done the dishes & tidied up a bit. Sometimes I rebel against myself tho. Blush then I have to do double work at the weekend.

dudsville · 05/08/2018 15:03

Enervator, it depends on your own surfaces. We have some e-cloths that are sponge size and have lots of raised bits so it's a good scrubber and does most surfaces in my house and I have e-cloths for dusting. Except the shower stall floor that has a plastic scrubber because it's the only thing that cleans the damn thing. My house is on two floors so I keep a vacuum on each floor and I have a handheld vac for the stairs. I use three cleaners; a dusting polish that does windows, glass and mirrors, an antibacterial bleach based cleaner, a general all purpose cleaner. That's it.

Enervator · 06/08/2018 08:08

dudsville thanks so much!

My honest answer to loving the housework (being a housewife with no kids) is "anything but the office". I resented the house chores when I worked but now I see it as my occupation and a job I need to do well. I love being on my own during the day and seeing the results of the work, i.e. how clean the bath looks after some Cif, shiny taps give me pleasure as well as putting washed clothes away.

I hate dusting, and don't iron the bedlinen (only clothes). We are both quite tidy people and don't have piles of newspapers/magazines etc everywhere, and wipe the spills when it happens, so it helps a lot.

I actually love cleaning! I clean every day and it gets easier each day as there is less and less things to do! The satisfaction I get once it's all clean and smells great is why! I have a baby and I'm constantly thinking about germs. I don't buy expensive products, just a floor cleaner that I buy for £1, some cheap polish and duster and white vinegar. White vinegar will literally clean anything and a few drops of essential oil/zoflora makes it all smell great. Baby oil is great for shiny surfaces, I use it on my splash back on my cooker. It doesn't have to be hard, just do a room a day if you have to!
