Carpet help!!

My 2 year old spilled his bright orange callippo ice lolly on my light grey carpet. I used vanish carpet foam on it three times to get it out and it has faded slightly, however the area I cleaned is now tacky and a darker grey! Is this the shampoo residue? I don’t want to make it worse!

Carpet cleaners can leave a residue that attracts dirt and dust. If you think that's the case then white vinegar (distilled Malt -looks completely clear like water) will both clean and neutralise it to stop more dirt being attracted to it.

It's preferable if you can use a carpet shampooing machine so it can suck up the dirt and go over the same area repeatly in one go (use half white vinegar and half water in the machine).

If you can't get one then you'll have to soak the area in pure white vinegar really scrub it in, dry the area as much as possible and repeat until it looks clean.

Distilled Malt vinegar can be bought in bottles just over 500mls in both Sainsbury's and Asda for approx 30-40p (Morrisons don't do own brand so far more expensive there).

Regarding the smell of vinegar - it will completely disappear as soon as it is dry - which at this time of year shouldn't take too long.

Oh thank you that has worked wonders! Already looks better. Any tips for the remaining calippo stain? Florescent yellow isn’t a great look!

I've had success with soda crystals on a large irn bru stain on pure white carpet but they can fade colours so I would be wary on a grey carpet.

I have also used daz washing powder mixed with water - not quite as successful as the soda crystals but shouldn't affect carpet colour - so the safer option. But after cleaning and drying up as much as possible I would re-vinegar to make sure it doesn't attract dirt again.
