Have you thought about the Shark Cordless? It has two batteries so you can swap when one runs out and is only about £350. We have a shark corded and this will be our next purchase if the bloody thing ever breaks

The trigger hold thing is fine - what it does do is stops you wasting charge time when you're doing things like moving between stairs and the like - you only have it going when you're actually using it.

V10 absolute btw is about as pleasant an experience as you're ever going to have doing the hoovering - I'm impressed (but I am comparing it to a really really dying V6 that wasn't picking up well at all).
