Carpet stain

Hi. A cup of tea was spilt in our carpet and the stain won’t shift after using hand-held foam carpet cleaner and Vanish carpet cleaner. We hired a rug doctor from Tesco which we’ve used to good effect in a previous house and it’s just made everything worse. Sad. Professional carpet cleaners have said it’s permanently stained so they can’t do anything so we’re at a loss as to what to do. Can’t really afford a new carpet. I don’t understand how the Rug Doctor has made it worse - we followed all the instructions. Any suggestions?? Any tips very gratefully received.

I'm not sure now you have used other products if this will work but if you get a washing up cloth soak it with warm eater and fairy liquid squeeze it so it's nice and foamy then leave it on the stain overnight the next day use a clean sponge to dampen it off and see if the stain has lifted at all and repeat. I have used this for tea stains and jam stains and it's worked a treat it may take up to a week but it's always lifted the stain for me - good luck

Do you have accidental damage cover on your home insurance?

It won't help you now, but if you spill something again, the most important thing is get as much of the liquid soaked up before you do anything. Fold a towel, put it over the spill and stand on it. Repeat until you can't get any more moisture out. Then use something to clean it with, working from the outside in. Cold water with a drop of washing up liquid will do the trick. Don't over wet the mark though, you want it barely damp. Do not use hot water as this will set the stain.

Thank you all. We’ve got the insurance assessors coming this week hopefully. I’ve tried to upload some photos but seem to be struggling - I’ll keep trying.
