Anyone made roman blinds or have roman blinds in a bay window?

We have a bay window ready roughly like the ones in the picture. The ceiling of the bay is directly above the window frame so there’s no wall above the window iykwim, it’s just window frame then bay ceiling.

We currently have curtains with a nasty plastic bendy curtain pole as it’s all we can fit in there, there’s no space for a nice pool before the actual window starts.

I’d love roman blinds but always assumed having no space above the window frame meant and the angle of the bay meant it would be tricky but have been on Pinterest and looks like it can be done.

So, has anyone done this? How do you know what measurements for the bay so it’s as tight as possible but isn’t so tight that it doesn’t fit three roman blinds in the space? Are there any issues with having roman blinds like this that means I should avoid it and go with regular curtains? Blinds look so much nicer!

Blush to typos

We do, but we don’t drop the blinds in the bay window.

There are measuring guides online. We had them made to measure, the person who made them measured them, which was good but expensive.

YuleABUnREASTIEable · 18/07/2018 20:11

Can they drop or not titty? We would need to drop them sometimes

John Lewis were rude and long waiting times, Hillary’s blinds seemed too much like double glazing sales techniques, we went with an independent local small business woman who was recommended.

Hi OP, I’ve had this before in a previous house. The blinds were on wooden batons rather than the cassettes which tend to be bigger, to fit three closely together.
They were attached to the ceiling rather than the wall / top of the window.
Good luck.

They can, we just don’t.

We have one that is the width of the widest (front) window. The 2 side blinds are narrower than the side windows due to the depth of the biggest blind, of that makes sense.

We have them and we drop them at night. Afraid I'm not sure how they were measured as ours were done by Hillary's. £££ but they do look nice. Surprisingly noisy to open and close.

We had this in previous house. Battens were fixed to the ceiling of the bay. Previous owner made them herself. I'd look for a local soft furnishing/ upholstery/ curtain person.

Thanks, I think the best bet would be to get a local person in then to measure and fit as I don’t like the idea of fitting them myself and if the measurements are wrong it’s their fault! We have specific chosen fabric so don’t want to be limited by what a specific shop offer. Slightly twitchy about the cost though, can anyone give a rough ballpark for what they paid for 3 roman blinds for a bay?

From memory ours came from dunelm and cost about £250 for the 3 blinds. Would have been about 13 years ago.

We had them made specially and they fit inside the window box, not above, so look very tidy. It was eye wateringly expensive. They are phenomenally noisy to close and basically an upper body workout. But they look absolutely wonderful.

Ive got a bay window exactly like that and bought some Roman blinds online. There was a very precise guide to measuring and I measured several times to make sure it was right! They were still expensive but I was really happy with them!
