I have just found out that I can remove the knobs from my hob and have had to clean 4 years of accumluated gunk .... i thought i was great cos i cleaned round them with an old toothbrush although i did wonder why they were so hard to turn!!! Also I only recently found out that you had a "drain" thing on washing machine that you should clear regularly... i had made a comment to my mum that something in washing machine was tearing clothes and would probably have to buy a new one(machine is 5years old) when she told me about this drain thing under the kick plate that when you open it loadsa water comes out but i also found 6 pennies, 4 screws and an under wire from a bra (in half) along with other unmentionables and now i've cleared it surprise, surprise no longer tears in clothes!! I thought i was pretty clued up with housework etc (thirty one with 2 kids, good job and uni degree!) now not so sure so would appreciate any hints and tips along with any other stories to show that i;m not alone.......

What about cleaning the filters on your hoover? My SIL didn't know about them until I told her one day.

Boco · 28/05/2007 22:17

Hmmm have you taken the smettage out of evaporiser in the fridge yet?

What about the sink fulch chamber - if you don't clean that every year it'll be very bad for you.

Boco · 28/05/2007 22:29

lol Boco - although i am hoping they are a joke as they sound scarily true! Humphrey - i also was unaware of that till recently as we have laminate i tend to sweep mostly and use the hoover maybe once a week but I did have to buy new bags recently which came with free filters and needless to say I hadn;t changed them since hoover was bought so sympathise with your SIL

Have you cleaned your cooker hood extractor? Change the filters? Or is it full of greasy gunk too?

essanel · 28/05/2007 22:41

Wotsit strangely enough i have put new filters in cooker [smug emoticon] ...... must've read the instructions when we got it!

oh good, its not nice when horrid gunk stuff falls down into lovely clean hob!

Boco · 28/05/2007 22:58

Did you know that once you remove the smettage, you can cube it and it's a very effective cure for chillblains and athletes foot. You can also attach picures to the wall with it once it's warmed up a bit.

Wotsit · 28/05/2007 23:18

lol. Do you think you would get much for it on ebay. Someone considered selling the fluff from the tumble dryer once?
