Fixing pushchair seat

I originally posted this in Chat but haven't had any luck so I thought this section may yield some success

This morning I got out our old Maclaren xt pushchair to clean it off to use for a trip away and I've noticed a rather big rip or deteriorated piece of fabric on the bottom of the seat roughly 2.5 inches long and 1.5 inches wide in a oval shape.
The stuffing is poking out and I can't get the sides to meet so I'm thinking it will need a patch, any advice on how to go about that?

I've taken the whole seating fabric off the frame as I wanted to wash it but not sure if the stuffing will come out unless repaired first?

I can cook, bake, garden but my textile skills are rather lacking, any help at all would be great and please explain steps as if you're talking to a simpleton, no offence will be taken.

Iron on trouser patch would do the trick, just stick a teatowel over it before you iron it on

Thank you Queen! I have just seen this and I'm already half way through stitching (by hand 😱) a patch over it.

I forgot to buy a thimble so my fingers are paying the price but it'll be finished soon.

I always go iron on haha the glue gives it a bit more wear in it
