Infestation of flies

My kitchen is infested, I've scrubbed everything clean, there is no food out, the cat food is only being put down once a day.
There are about 30 on each window in the kitchen, I opened windows, put fly traps up and the buggers are still coming!! I also came down one morning to a kitchen floor alive with maggots . I'm really clean and there is no rubbish left around and I'm keeping the bin outside in the warm weather. What can I do ???

Has something died underneath one of your cupboards do you think?

Definitely sounds like a dead thing somewhere inside. Either go hunting for it or if you can't face it then the flies gradually decrease after 10 days or so.

Are they coming in from outside or do you think something has rotted (such as under the floor or behind a cupboard) and they're coming from inside?

If they're coming from outside I'd be looking at what smells they hate. A quick google says Lavender (but there are other smells), so for starters I'd be making the kitchen smell of lavender with candles and essential oils.

You sure it's not drain flies??? I had them twice in my bathroom and finally discovered they were coming from a crack between the roles that was getting damp.

Thanks everyone after some research they seem to be cluster flies , I've cleaned all the windows and frames and will be getting as many lavender based products as possible
