Hi,

I’m a single mum and work 9-7 mon-fri and am struggling with keeping the house clean. We’ve lived in this house for 5 years now and unfortunately I’ve let it get quite bad as I’ve not done the cleaning as well as I should have done. I would like a nice house for my daughter who is 10. She helps with general housework such as washing, washing up etc but this house needs a deep clean in the kitchen and bathroom and I’d love a cleaner who could help me on a weekly basis to maintain a nice house. I’m so worried though about employing a cleaner as I feel so embarrassed about the dirty state of the house and really need help but can’t bring myself to phone anyone as I’m so embarrassed. I even considered employing someone through a company and getting someone to come round when I’m at work but know the first visit and chat I will have to be there so that wouldn’t work.

The house is tidy with little clutter around but things like floors, skirting boards etc have been neglected. I would love to start to get on top of things with a cleaner, do I bite the bullet and make the call?

I don’t think you need to be embarrassed but if you are, you could book a one off deep clean with one company and then get someone else to be your regular cleaner?

Don’t be embarrassed. Cleaners don’t mind. For this I’d find a local cleaning company and book a proper full house deep clean. When it’s done you can take some time to decide if you want regular help or try to keep on top of it alone. If you and your daughter are both able to tackle it for a couple of hours weekly you should be fine,, as long as you start from clean. Even a 10 yo can learn to do most jobs, I started cleaning at 7 and really enjoyed it!
