Flies in the house!! Infestation!

I’ve noticed the odd black fly lately which I’ve either swatted, sprayed or it’s been lucky enough to escape via the window.
I’ve just got home and I’ve killed 8 congregating on the living room window and another 5 in the kitchen.
Let the dogs out from the utility room and another 5 have appeared in the living roomAngry
I’ve been using a spray to get rid but have just managed to taste some myself and now have a numb tongue.
I also have a toddler and I’m conscious these sprays aren’t great for you!
They aren’t blue bottles but they are the same size except black.
Any ideas where they might be coming from and how to get rid of them?? There isn’t any food out and the surfaces etc are clean.

Do you have a loft? We had mice in the loft which died. We couldn't find the bodies, but the flies did. I sealed the loft hatch with masking tape. Solved the problem.

See if you can see where they're coming in. We had flies for a while and I spotted the cat watching them. They were coming in through a gap in the skirting, walking upside down along the underside of the kitchen units and then appearing on the window. Clever things!

Buy a take away style fly killer zapper and fry em.

Can't help you on how to get rid of them, but was listening to Vanessa Feltz - covering for Jeremy Vine this lunchtime - and it seems it's happening in many towns up and down the country.

Various possible reasons for them were given, from neighbours rubbish piles to council tips etc.

We do have a loft and have had the hatch down in the hot weather although not for a few days now. They aren’t upstairs though which is why I feel they are coming from somewhere downstairs.
@PeaPodPopper that reassures me a bit. I have just cleaned the kitchen floor and bleached all the sinks. The house was clean when I went out but it makes me paranoid.
We have a cellar where the dogs stay and I have a nasty feeling they might be coming from somewhere down there... I gutted it the other day though. When DD goes to bed I will be investigating further. No flies down there though...

There may be the remains of some dead vermin or a dead bird nearby? They can be found in the most unlikeliest of places. This is where the flies may possibly to come from.

But yes, re the radio yesterday, this seems to be a nationwide problem at the moment. Good luck with getting rid of them!
