They really need it. What will happen if I cold wash them. I have a machine with a large drum and I would line dry them.

If they are really dirty, why don’t you have them dry cleaned?

Nanasueathome · 31/05/2018 13:35

In me experience it was the lining that caused the problem. The lining shrunk and the actual curtains didn’t
They were a mess

^ lining shrunk in mine too and a mess
They'd not even gone in washer - gently washed in cool bath

Oh!! Good thing I asked!!

Given the size I think they will cost quite a bit to dryclean and a wash would be better way of cleaning these marks than a chemical clean ....but I don’t want to risk the shrink!

Well you won't be doing it very often - when you consider the cost of curtains, dry cleaning costs aren't that high. I've washed cheap lined curtains in the past and the curtains shrank a little, but the poly cotton linings didn't. I wouldn't do that with the curtains you describe.

I too tried to wash my curtains. Again the lining shrank differently to the main fabric, total disaster. The muddy dog insists on sitting on the window sill so we have decided that cheap, easily replaced curtains are our only hope. (Sorry, environmentally criminal, I know)
