Hoovers

Today’s interesting thread alert...

My hoover is about to give up the ghost. It’s a vax and is one they sent me to replace the old one when it broke within warrenty. I really like it but clearly the build quality can’t cope with my family Blush

We had a dyson before. What do you recommend?

I'm devoted to my Henry.

HyacinthsBucket70 · 28/05/2018 20:35

I've just got a Shark after getting sick of replacing parts on our 5 year old Dyson, and it's a beast of a machine. Really good lights on the front, easy to use and has beaten the hell out of my living room carpet - it looks like new. It's the pet version and not cordless.

Stephisaur · 28/05/2018 20:38

I love my Henry. I just don’t think you can beat them. We have a mix of vinyl, tile and carpet and he cleans all 3 brilliantly :)

Also, vacuums with bags are a godsend for my asthmatic husband!

Shark lift away. Best vacuum ever.

Ollivander84 · 28/05/2018 20:41

Shark. I swapped my cordless Dyson for it and I love it. The headlights show up every speck of dust, the suction is incredible and I just adore it Grin dear lord I'm only 34

PotteringAlong · 28/05/2018 20:47

Thank you! My DH is now reading reviews of the shark —slightly overinvested— Grin

I couldn't get on with my Henry, heavy, cumbersome, tipped over and took chunks out of door frames. Hard work on carpets too. The pipes only push together rather than click and mine worked loose after a short amount of time.
I have a Miele now and that's really good. Great suction and all the tools are on board. I have a cordless Dyson for quick clean ups but the suction on it is rubbish. My previous corded dysons were ok though.

I have a vax / shampooer it is the dogs nuts ! very powerful even on its lowest setting , I have carpet and vinyl the only problem I have with it is it is quite big and bulky and a hassle to do the stairs with as it wont balance on the step ,
Its shampoo setting is great ( ooh the crap that comes out of your carpet is horrifying ) and it is powerful enough to get the carpets almost dry

clary · 28/05/2018 21:17

I bought a Shark and I'm not feeling the love. it's light and clips apart easily, but the dust container is stupidly small, and the brush for dusting is annoying as it's combined with the crevice tool in an unhelpful way...

It's ok but I wish I'd got the Dyson ball

AgedTawnyPort · 29/05/2018 09:42

I have just ordered a new Dyson Cyclone V10 Animal. I have had Dyson for a very long time. Never had any issues and I am only replacing my Dyson ball because I have got three storeys with two high staircases to vacuum and carrying it up and down is cumbersome.

Not cheap at £400 but it will get a lot of use, we vacuum downstairs daily which is a fairly big space (very hairy dog). If I get two years out of it (all my other Dysons have lasted 7 plus years) which is the guarantee period, it will have cost 55p per day.

beachbaby123 · 29/05/2018 12:42

We bought a shark and it is really amazing. The carpets look brand new after each run. It is heavy though if you have many storeys in your house and have to carry it up and down.............

AgedTawnyPort · 29/05/2018 12:56

My dyson ball is heavy Clary, I am not sure which one it is, my parents bought it and found it heavy so gave it to me after a couple of weeks. It wasn’t a considered purchase so I can’t remember the detail without looking. Weight is why I have ordered a cordless one with more stairs than ever.

AvocadoLovingMamaOfOne · 29/05/2018 22:20

We bought a shark lift away and I’ve never used a hoover as good as it! We’ve had vax and Dyson previously and they didn’t lift anywhere near as much as the shark does.
