New washing machine

I’ve just bought a new washing machine. Kenwood. I’ve done an empty wash cycle like it advised. I put my first load of washing in yesterday and my clothes came out smelling of just water not the detergent. So I thought I’d try again..3rd time round and the clothes still only smell of just water. My clothes used to smell lovely with my old washing machine.

Maybe the new machine rinses more thoroughly? If I can smell detergent on washed clothes I always think the machine isn't rinsing properly.

I suppose so. It just feels like my washing hasn’t been washed😭

What detergent and cycle are you using? Some modern machines pump out before the cycle starts so if your dosing straight into the drum, it could be draining the detergent out before the wash?

I wish mine didn't smell of detergent.

I often wash without any detergent to remove the build up of optical brighteners and other muck and if it is directly after a wash with detergent the stuff picks up the smell from the previous wash because it doesn't rinse well. I even get suds in the bottom of the door when there is no soap added because it is never rinsed out.

ToadOfSadness could you not just use an eco detergent that doesn’t contain optical brighteners or other rubbish? We use Bio-D powder, it’s fantastic.
