Indian ink!

Has anyone got any miracle cleaning suggestions for getting used Indian ink off a paleish rug. I could weep.

DD decided that no watercolours in the sitting room meant that drawing with inks was ok. DH came home to find her ink box dripping black Indian ink on the rug. His solution was to pour water on it to dilute (or spread🙄) it. To be fair that is his one solution to any spills!

Bloody annoying, both. I have googled it, cheap hairspray or rubbing alcohol, I will buy both today but is there anything else I should buy?

Not sure about the ‘used’.

Hi, I have seen milk recommended for cleaning ink from fountain pens. I often use a cleaner called Amodex, it is sold for ink stains including permanent marker. Unfortunately it is ridiculously expensive in the UK. I buy the 4oz bottles from American ebay, it works out a lot cheaper. It does work really well, you rub it into the stain and you can see it being pushed out - put a clean cloth under/ beside it to absorb the mark, then rinse with plain water. As I understand it, Amodex is milk based, so worth trying milk on your stain? Hope this helps!

What's the rug made of?
I would blot it dry with kitchen paper first. If the ink is still wet, I might try soda crystals or salt or bicarb on it to see iff the crystals can suck out the ink.

Thanks for your suggestions. I used rug doctor stain remover, left on all day while I was at work and bought surgical spirit and cheap hairspray from boots.

It is 85% gone which is fab ... I will be repeating it when I get home tonight and getting my Vax orange thing out when I can get to it (recently moved house)!

Thanks Mike Smile, annnoyingly I had the rug cleaned just before I moved house.

I had already spoken to the carpet cleaning firm about polishing and sealing the kitchen floor next week and they have offered to have a go at cleaning the (now minor) stains off the rug .... so I probably won't try to find the orange Vax thing! I could live with what I am left with, whereas it was disastrous on Monday.
