Getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge: Part 3: Are we nearly there yet?

StealthNinjaMum · 09/05/2018 08:45

For 2000 posts a group of messy mumsnetters have been chucking out, selling, recycling and cooking weird cakes.

Are we free of clutter yet? Sadly not.

Thankfully we're here to get support and be told off when we have a relapse and bring more clutter into the house, garages, sheds, gardens.

Newbies are welcome to join us, it's easy we literally just get rid of one thing a day and report back.

Grey I'm another one who is jealous of your nesting. You literally order, sort and file your entire life in 10 months and can eat absolutely anything you want while you do it, it's an amazing experience. What's not to love? Apart from the heartburn and crazy sweating Grin

Stealth a big well done to your DD you must be so proud. Sending lots of love over to her Thanks

I was lucky to be able to give opened but unused size 1 nappies away to my NDN as she was pregnant and has form for having small (slightly) prem babies. My DS's on the other hand both can out like 8 week olds! Grin

I have sinned and brought in ALL the things from an impromptu shopping trip. However I will be evening that out as I have a load of clothes to eBay/charity that youngest DS doesn't fit into anymore.

IHateYourCarpet · 18/05/2018 15:00

I'm sure you'll redeem yourself Nama Grin

Put two bigger items on gumtree they didn't shift on eBay. A hotplate and mini oven we had to buy when the oven broke and we were waiting for a replacement for eight weeks!

I seriously think I'm going to stick all my books on there for £15. Then someone can take them out of my bloody house and sell them for more if they want to Smile they don't seem to be going anywhere on eBay.

I need to stick my work wardrobe on there actually. My boobs aren't deflating. The dresses and shirts are never going to fit again Sad

CiderwithBuda · 18/05/2018 16:11

Noting major here today but I was trying to squeeze some things into a drawer this morning and decided to sort it. How many pairs Of black jersey harem pants does one woman need? Because I had 6. Yes 6. All black. And bought and oxblood pair last week. I’ve put three pairs in the charity bag. And a couple of tshirts and tops that I haven’t worn for the last couple of summers.

Well done to your dd Stealth. Talk of nappies reminds me I have an opened pack of pull ups that my sis left here. Wonder would the food bank take them.

Grey - happy nesting! My mum got the benefit of mine! We moved countries when I was six months pregnant so all our stuff was en route from Vietnam to Bulgaria and I was staying with my parents for four months!

IHateYourCarpet · 18/05/2018 17:23

DS has puked on me three times and is now asleep on top of me. Someone has bought the hot plate thing and is collecting it any minute Shock I can't believe how quickly it went!

SandAndSea · 18/05/2018 17:42

Today's items: A trendy black choker, an old t-shirt and a packet of hair dye.

NaMajesty · 18/05/2018 17:58

Thrown out another three items from the toddler cupboard. 24 items will be sold (I've replaced all the baby cutlery and plates with new matching stuff).

My total for this month is 139 - I think someone said I should do 200 this month if I remember correctly? Will focus on that tomorrow as I have loads of old clothing to sell.

MrsMozart · 18/05/2018 18:14

Buffys I've found another one... Grin

IHateYourCarpet Hope he's better soon! Yay the sale.

I've palmed off some bits to DD2, and added a pair of headphones to the charity shop pile.

IHateYourCarpet · 18/05/2018 18:33

Thanks Mozart! He's awake again and seems happy enough. I think it's all the extra salvia he's swallowing when he's teething Envy (vom face).

MrsMozart · 18/05/2018 18:35

IHateYourCarpet Aw, poor sweetie. Hopefully it'll pass very (very!) soon.

MadelineJapan · 18/05/2018 19:24

Hopefully! I know it's not his fault but this has been going on and off for months Sad the screaming with pain is starting to drive me a little bit crazy.

DH has just expressed JOY that the hob has been sold Grin I think he may have been bashed on the head at work ...

IHateYourCarpet · 18/05/2018 19:26

I have literally no idea why my phone just seems to be cycling through other usernames Confused

Wannabecitygirl · 18/05/2018 20:28

Offloaded a ton of craft stuff off to DD’s friend who came for a play date today.
Haven’t found anything else to get rid of, I’ve been too busy following them around 🙈

ChocEggNoThanks · 18/05/2018 20:31

Marking place.

GreyCloudsToday · 18/05/2018 21:57

Thanks NaMajesty and CiderwithBuda. I really have been eating everything in sight Blush hope that BF will declutter a couple of stone!

NaMajesty I'm in awe of your 139 total!

I listed loads of that new app Schpock, but it hasn't really been going anywhere. Dreading having to resist on eBay or Gumtree!

ememem84 · 19/05/2018 17:12

Fell off for a bit.

Today have sorted through ds’ clothes. And have filled two bags with charity shop stuff and have listed some bits on eBay. Phew. The rest has been neatly folded and packed away in case we have another.

IHateYourCarpet · 19/05/2018 17:13

Grey I've never had any luck with that one! Or Vinted. I think gumtree is the way to go, as much of a pain in the arse it is to list stuff.

Made DS's confetti balloons using up a load of old tissue paper which clears out some of my craft box. Did have to buy him a shirt and bow tie.

Put together a box of stuff for the catering next weekend. So the house is free of;

Two jars of jam
A jar of mustard
A jar of branston pickle
A 2.5 kilo bag of carrot cake mix
2 pastry cases from the freezer

Massive row about MIL and SIL saying it was a 'waste of time' seeing DS, so they're probably decluttered from my life.

MrsMozart · 19/05/2018 17:32

IHateYourCarpet well that's taken decluttering to a new level. Hope life is more peaceful now.

I've added a box thing and a couple of hangars to the charity pile.

LostMyBaubles · 19/05/2018 17:35

Hellllooooo
Been waiting for this to pop up on active again

Will have a read through soon

ememem84 · 19/05/2018 17:46

I just need to take my stuff to the charity shop now. But that’s Monday’s job.

NaMajesty · 20/05/2018 00:07

Carpet well done on decluttering toxic family members. That's a hard thing to do

I completely ripped up every single living thing in the front garden including some disgusting bush things that grew FLAT ON THE GROUND?! (Housing developers planted them - not me). I have covered with fabric stuff and will put stones on with some pot plans soon. Looks so much better already! Took hours and hours and hours but it needed to be done.

StealthNinjaMum · 20/05/2018 00:23

carpet what a nasty thing to say. Did they really mean it? It makes me really appreciate my inlaws even though they can sometimes be odd.

Well done namajesty it's so satisfying doing a project like that.

My house is suddenly a tip again as I haven't kept up with housework for a couple of days and dmil / dfil are visiting tomorrow so I am in the middle of giving the house a quick tidy. So far I have thrown out some teabags that went off 18 months ago and some buttons that were just sitting on a kitchen surface for a couple of weeks months.

Dh is still decluttering paperwork in earnest. He has a big pile to be shredded - I have done a bit for him - and has started to talk about doing some filing. Luckily I have about 15 unused files that I have removed paper from.

IHateYourCarpet · 20/05/2018 08:50

Ugh. They did mean it I'm afraid Stealth. They say shit like it all the time. We had some issues with SIL a few months back, and DH convinced me to give it another go. Nama now that I've decided the lines been crossed it feels surprisingly easy! We'll see them at the christening next week, then I've told DH that's it.

I'm in awe of nama's flat bushes! I bet the garden is going to look amazing when it's finished though Grin hope you aren't too sunburnt!

I'm actually really sad today is my last day of decluttering for a couple of weeks. And a teeny bit gutted that I know we're going to come back with gifts and parents unwanted junk and have to start over again.

MrsMozart · 20/05/2018 08:55

Carpet you're doing the right thing, but you know that. Hope the christening goes well. As for the extra stuff, well that just means you keep posting on here Grin

ememem84 · 20/05/2018 09:05

Last night managed to declutter a whole jar of chilli flakes in a pasta sauce. I flipped the lid on the wrong part and wasn’t paying attention when I shook it in...managed to scrape most of it out though. Ffs.

StealthNinjaMum · 20/05/2018 10:25

Last week when I cleaned out the car I found a single red shoe. Today I found it's partner so that's one pair of child's shoes in the charity shop! Yay! I had thought I wouldn't have time today but it's only one thing.
