Flys in roof lantern

We have hundreds of them 😬. They fly up into our roof lantern which is in the kitchen. Any ideas how to get rid of them/stop them coming in? My dd has a chronic illness & I can't use toxic fly sprays. I've tried vinegar in a pot underneath but that has minimal affect. Please help?!!!

I live in South Australia where they're a real issue. The only thing I can suggest is fly screens on your doors and windows.

My flatmate and I when living in London, once made our own flyscreens by simply putting up black tulle over the window apertures.
