Barbeque cleaning - a year since!!!

So I’ve discovered our uniflame barbeque hasn’t been cleaned in almost a year. My ex was usually the one to do it but now it’s going to be me! I cannot bear the thought of it so disgustingly covered. Is there an easy way to clean it or can anyone recommend any products for it?

I use a metal scourer and washing up liquid and do it outside with the hosepipe to avoid a big splattery mess at the kitchen sink!

I've heard that heating it up and then letting it cool down before cleaning is a good idea, like a self cleaning type of thing. Will soften the burnt on stuff.

Once cooled down vinegar and baking soda can break up burnt on food. 2 cups of vinegar and 1 cup of baking soda with trays in a sealed bag. Leave for a few hours. Then rinse. You could then go over with s normal wash.

We often forget to clean the BBQ. When that happens, I light a new fire under the disgusting grate, and burn the fat off. I scrub the grate with the wire brush while it's still hot, turning it over with tongs. That's all that is needed. As long as you scrub off all the burnt-on stuff, and wipe off ash, you don't need to soap it.

I use the oven cleaner to clean the grill bit - literally you just put them in the bag and then leave overnight, rinse/ scrub a little the next morning and it all comes off. Sorry I can't remember the name I think it's oven pride? In an orange box it's about £4! Amazing stuff!! The frame I just clean with hot soapy water.

You should be able to put the grill bars into those oven cleaning bags and leave it to soak the thick off, clean like you would any oven.
Once it's clean, when the grill has cooled, roll up a big ball of tin foil and rub the bars, most of the food and sauce will come right off, shape a long bit into a narrow point and that can be rubbed to get into the grooves in between. A good everyday method of keeping it clean in between 'big' cleans

Blast it with the Karcher steam cleaner, works really well.

DH just burns the food off by turning it up full blast with the lid down. Blush

Bin bag, spray liberally outside house/ inside bin bag over grill with oven cleaner. Close up bag, leave for a few hours, tip out of bag, hose off. Repeat may be necessary if really grim.

Finish with a quick rinse in the sink.

Thank you for the advice. I Ended up messing my sink up but doing it there. Just used a basin and scrubbed the main bit. I was too nervous with the ovenpride as seemed very corrosive and I’m very clumsy!

I never specifically clean the bbq. I get it super hot then wipe it clean using half a lemon on a fork.
