Can anyone recommend a good one for my new kitchen - have looked at Maytag, Admiral, Samsung and John Lewis ones so far - any top tips etc appreciated. TIA

Oh goody, a useful thread. I need a new one too so shall watch with interest. Are you wanting a specific colour/finish, arfur?

arfur · 15/05/2007 13:31

Yes fraid so DH wants the dreaded stainless steel (look at all the fingerprints and dirty marks) finish. Still it will complement the granite worktops which also take some keeping clean too I understand

We have a Maytag, which was very expensive but is very good. It does filtered water, crushed ice and normal ice and has quite a large capacity. If anything goes wrong with it, Maytag are quite good sending out their service engineers, but again they are very expensive IMO.

We have a samsung, which I beleive are much cheaper than other brands... (We got £800 of in a sale online) so worth looking at loads of sites to get the best price.

Ours has filtered water, crushed and normal ice, and a special salad drawer which really does keep things fresher for longer.

The only thing I would say is that it doesn't have a big freezer as the ice storage thing takes up a lot of space, but it is easily big enough for us as we don't buy much frozen stuff (and I am not organised enough to cook extra and freeze it)...

Our model is the rs21dgrs but have no idea what the differences are, as there seems to be loads of different model numbers...

Good luck,, you won't regret it - I just love mine...

I will go and add a photo to my profiles (how sad am I, but just want to show how nice them can look)...

Another vote for Samsung - we looked at them all and it was by far the best value for money (IMHO)

Ours is a Samsung, although I would say that the freezer capacity isn't actually as big as our smaller fridge/freezer we had before.

Really like the water filter/tap and ice maker.

Agree the freezer is quite small - but we have a chest freezer in the garage as well. Ice & water filter & dispenser is great - DS drinks more water and we don't spend a fortune on bottled fizzy water for us any more.

Another Samsung here too - we love it, though anything would be better than the slimline thing we had before. Copes easily with Christmas, which is when we have the most food in the house. Love the ice and water dispenser. Ours is white, though, and I think quite an old model.

I've got a maytag. It's a few years old but still great and I love it. It has three drawers for fruit veg and salad, which can be humidity controleld for crispness. The shelves are all glass, so look a lot nicer, and cleaner. It also has a cool compartment on the door for drinks and snacks, and a childproof medicine drawer. The freezer space isn't massive, but I manage to get most stuff in it, and have another smaller freezer for veg. They also have a couple of winder shelves so that you can adjust the height without havign to take everythign off the shelf first.
I think considering the amount that they cost, it's worth investing in a really good one that will last.
