How to get rid of wee smell??

My baby tipped over his sister's potty FULL of wee into the carpet. I've tried washing up liquid, baking soda, carpet shampoo and a Vax wash (which I swear made it worse!) Any suggestions Mumsnet?

Try pouring white vinegar on it and leaving it for as long as you can, it's probably gone through to the underlay. Have you got a carpet cleaner?

Sorry just saw you have a vax, pour the vinegar on and leave it for a while then use the vax on it Smile

I use a 50:50 mix of white vinegar and water. Sounds like you will need to really soak the area, as (like PP says) it has probably soaked right down into the underlay. Leave it to soak in for at least 2 hours, then blot up any excess with towels. The room will stink of vinegar for a few days, but once fully dry, will no longer smell.

Oh yes, can use Vax to suck it back out after the 2 hours, rather than towels.

I'd try a steamer if you have one, the sort with a nozzle. And some non bio washing powder.

Yep. Vinegar for wee, bicarb for puke.

Biological washing liquid. I've used it to remove the smell of pet wee. Dilute it in water, still keeping a strong solution, and sponge it in. Leave for a bit, sponge with water and mopped up excess with kitchen roll and then leave it to dry.

Biological washing powder or liquid mixed with a little water - leave it to soak in, then Vax out
