New House - smells of dog

We are moving into a new house next week.
The previous owners have had 5 dogs in the property?
Apart from cleaning upstairs carpets with carpet cleaner (downstairs is wood) how do I get rid of the smell of dogs?
I can open the windows but with a 5 month old I'm worried about the house getting cold?
Any tips or advice, I would be grateful!

I dropped a huge glass of milk on my brand new rug in the first week. We rushed to get a steam cleaner, spent the weekend cleaning but it still stank. Milk spills smell terrible.

After trawling the internet I resorted to white vinegar in a bowl and leaving it overnight and hey presto the smell was gone.

The carpets are probably soaked with dog odours. Not really sure how much can vinegar help you. You can try going through the trouble. My advice is to call a carpet cleaner.

I would book a professional carpet cleaner. They do a far better job than when you do it yourself and are pretty good value. Wipe down all the wood floors with a zoflora dilution or similar, and keep all the windows open.

Oh dear. Dog smells can linger quite a while. DH once bought a car from a dog owner, and although the car had been valeted, we could still smell dog in the car for about 5 years afterwards - epecially on a hot day.

Easier to just get a dog yourselves - then you stop smelling them!

This happened to us! I cried Grin. It turned out the smelliest things were the doormats, once we got rid of those and aired the house smelled much better. Also getting the little boxes of bicarbonate and leaving them open helped.

Wash the curtains if they were left by the previous owners. If there's an inset door mat get it replaced, they're not expensive. I agree that professional carpet cleaning will give superior results to those you can get yourself because the equipment used is bigger and more powerful.
