Is this a bit steep?

I've just had a quote from a cleaning firm of £90 to clean my 4 bed house for 4 hours per week. I've never looked for a cleaner before but was shocked by this. Is it way too high or am I being unrealistic? We're in the midlands.

We are charged £12.50 per hour.

dontticklethetoad · 23/04/2018 20:26

That can't be right? I'm home counties and most cleaners around here charge £10-14/hr.
Did they maybe think it was a one off clean?

CannyAnnie · 23/04/2018 20:26

Is this with an agency/franchise?

dementedpixie · 23/04/2018 20:26

£90 A day, week or month?

Theshittyendofthestick · 23/04/2018 20:28

No - definitely for a weekly clean. Clean kitchen and bathroom, hoover carpets, mop hard floors and dust. Really wasn't expecting the figure she came up with!

Are they sending 2 cleaners? I’ve a large 3 bed and it’s £80 but I live in a city. Get more quotes from other companies?

Nannyplumssillyoldelf · 23/04/2018 20:28

That's outrageous.

Theshittyendofthestick · 23/04/2018 20:29

4 hours, one person, once a week. Not a franchise. Met with the owner who says she has a team of regular staff.

£22.50 an hour?! No way. I pay £10 cash in hand, have paid up to £13 an hour. South east

unintentionalthreadkiller · 23/04/2018 20:32

Where do you live? That's crazy unless you have VERY large bedrooms.

Ophelialovescats · 23/04/2018 20:32

£10 an hour is what I pay .

Theshittyendofthestick · 23/04/2018 20:35

We live in Leicester. Victorian semi, high ceilings and reasonable size but def not huge.
I'm very encouraged by these responses - there is no way I could justify spending £90 a week. Will try some other cleaners!

We pay £10 an hour direct to our cleaner, we are on the Northamptonshire/Leicestershire border.

cloudtree · 23/04/2018 20:40

I'm fairly close to you and £10-£12 an hour is the norm

SoyDora · 23/04/2018 20:40

We’re in Leicestershire and used to pay £13 an hour. Large 4 bed.

Weelis02 · 23/04/2018 20:40

I do housekeeping, I charge 10 pound an hour. What they are charging seems mad to me

greathat · 23/04/2018 20:40

get on your local facebook group and ask for recommendations

mommybear1 · 24/04/2018 09:04

Wow that is madness OP she will be out of business at that rate. I'm also Midlands based have always paid up to £10 per hour one company did quote me £12.50 but that's as high as I've been told.
