New washing machine

Finlaggan · 22/04/2018 21:35

My washing machine is on its last legs any recommendations for a new one? I don't know where to start! Family of 4, two young children, I use it every day. Thanks.

HotPoint is a recent one we went for when ours gave up.

It's lovely with a 7 or 8 kg load and has lots of settings and options for washes it's a marvel compared to our nearly 10yo Whirlpool.

We got it from ao and went for the black one. I'll try and find a link.

ISeeTheLight · 22/04/2018 21:40

Never Hotpoint or anything owned by the Whirlpool consortium. We had a house fire due to a faulty dryer - DD was 10 days old. We could have died. Whirlpool couldn't care less. I understand sometimes things go wrong but they're responsible for lots of deaths and fires throughout the UK.
We've ordered a Samsung washing machine, can't comment on performance yet but it's got good reviews and a 5 he guarantee.

Oh and it's also really quiet, we have it in the kitchen where we are almost all the time and half the time I have to check if it's running as I can't hear it Grin

I love my Bosch. My mum has a Miele, which she swears by, though I couldn't afford one!

M0reGinPlease · 22/04/2018 21:47

Miele all the way if you can afford.

Alfiemoon1 · 23/04/2018 09:05

Had a Hotpoint washer and separate dryer years ago and had nothing but problems with them the washer broke so many times in the first year despite every part being replaced curry’s who i bought it from let me swap it. Currently have a new Samsung which is great and previously had an LG which was also good and lasted a long time

Alfiemoon1 · 23/04/2018 09:07

My Samsung has a 10 year guarantee which I believe is similar to Miele but was a lot cheaper to buy

Topseyt · 23/04/2018 09:09

Bosch here.

EcoCleaner · 23/04/2018 10:20

Miele. Or Bosch, but not the Bosch Series 2 machines. Go for the Series 4 range upwards.
I wouldn’t have anything else now. Whirlpool, Hotpoint & Indesit are all owned by the same company and have had issues with fires, Hoover & Candy are the same company and had issues with exploding drums.
Zanussi and AEG are also the same company and good machines but very very long wash times

EcoCleaner · 23/04/2018 10:21

Also, the Samsung and LG 10 year guarantee only includes the motor and doesn’t include bearings and PCB’s which are the most common faults.

ICJump · 23/04/2018 10:31

I’ve just brought an 11 kilo Samsung. It’s huge I blood love it. I can do all the bedding from my king size bed in one go. It has an add wash door so if I find a sock I can chuck it in even mid cycle. It washed duvets.

Finlaggan · 23/04/2018 11:45

This is great thanks.

Miele, if you can afford it. Also, if you are near a John Lewis and are after a bargain, have a look at the board where they pin all the discontinued / reduced white goods - you can often get a real bargain if you are flexible and of course they are all ready to be delivered too.

Finlaggan · 28/04/2018 08:33

Thanks for that. Is the board in store? Didn't know this existed!

There is definitely one in the Oxford Street store in the white goods section, you will need to look around to find it. It used to be near the vacuum cleaners (outing myself as a total bargain hunter). Some of the goods have small imperfections, e.g. a small scratch on the side panel that won't show when it is installed etc. but you will still benefit from the J Lewis guarantee.

LG 8kg on special at Currys cheapest I found. Brilliant machine.

gingergiraffe · 28/04/2018 17:14

Miele. Expensive but reliable. Had mine ten years and nothing has gone wrong. Yet.

Finlaggan · 28/04/2018 18:29

Thank you!

I've splashed out and got a Bosch. Can't wait to get rid of my screeching indesit although it has served us well. Just hoping it fits!
