Buying a second hand Dyson handheld. Help?

I've finally got enough money together to get a hoover that isn't cumbersome and awful (like my hetty) we live in the tiniest of tiny houses and have a baby and dog and a cat so was thinking Dyson handheld cordless type jobby. My budget is around £200.

Was looking at second hand V6's or V6 animal. Does anyone have any experience of second hand dysons from ebay?

Open to other recommendations too! Just needs to be fairly inexpensive, compact and good!

I got a Dyson handheld for less than £200 from Aldi but I find it pretty rubbish.

I’ve heard great things from friends who have the G-Tech ones.

Wow which model was that hobnobs?

My mum had one of the older handheld models that came with the short attachments, it was a bit rubbish. I'm looking at the type that come with a pole that reaches the floor, I've heard they're much better.

It sounds silly, but I really hate the way the G techs look Grin

My lovely parents have just bought me a V6 Animal and it's amazing! I was saving up for a refurbished one from Ebay but they surprised me with a new one last weekend as I've been helping them out with some stuff lately.
I've bought many refurbished items over the years (camera, laptop, steam mop, phones etc) and have never had problems with them. Often they're only classed as refurbished as a customer has returned a brand new one that's been opened, or it's been on display. Make sure it has a warranty with it and you'll be fine.

I got the V7 from the dyson outlet store - recommended on the Martin Lewis moneysaving site - we love it. Only one year guarantee not the 5 year from new but it is fab, we have never hoovered so much!

I got a refurbished v6 (I think it was) from the eBay outlet, was about £120, the first one was faulty but they replaced it straight away and customer service was actually helpful (a rarity I find!) and the second one is great, the DC enjoy using it and hoover without being asked to, now that is worth paying for GrinGrin

I think mine is a V6 like the one I’ve linked to, £179 in John Lewis.

SpeckledyHen · 15/04/2018 21:46

I got the John Lewis one 2 weeks ago and it's great so far .

The V6 is below your budget from new OP Smile I cant say much, I've only had mine since Friday but I've been hoovering everywhere I love it!

I recently bought the V6 from the dyson refurbished site on ebay and it is AWESOME. I am in love with it.

Treaclespongeandcustard · 16/04/2018 15:54

Watch out for the sales at John Lewis and get a new one op. I got a V7 for £200 and I love it.

I'd say get the animal one with pets. We've got a non animal big Dyson and a V6 animal one. The V6 picks up ALL my flipping dog's fur, I have no idea how she isn't bald the amount she sheds!

keepingbees · 16/04/2018 16:12

We got the v6 animal (we have no pets but I like the extra brushes) refurbished from Dyson on eBay too, and honestly you wouldn't know it wasn't brand new. No signs of use at all and all the attachments are new.

We have hard floors downstairs and carpet upstairs. On the carpet it's great, although struggles on our fluffy rug, on the hard floor it does tend to ping any hard bits (say a bit of cereal for example) around rather than pick them up. It's good on dust and hair though. The suction feels pretty weak to me but it sucks up absolutely loads so it does the job.

I dithered about getting one for ages and I'm glad we did. So much easier just grabbing it for a quick whizz around rather than plugging in and dragging out the normal one.

A few weeks ago I got a V6 Absolute refurb from Dyson on EBay. As a pp said you wouldn't know it wasn't brand new. It's great and I wish I'd got it years ago!

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 17/04/2018 10:34

how do the animal ones manage with long human hair? My hair gets everywhere, and despite two of the long-haired DC no longer living here, between me and the one that's left, we still have the same quantity of hair all over the place Sad. Am pondering a hand held due to pain/illness, as even my current Henry is a bit heavy and unwieldy.

Can't speak for buying a second hand Dyson but I have a bad blade and I love it. Significantly cheaper than a Dyson (think I paid £140). They also faired well in some test of cordless vaccums I read yesterday (think daily mail).

19lottie82 · 17/04/2018 16:31

I’ve got a cordless dyson and I’m not impressed TBH, I use it for a quick whizz round but rely on my corded dyson for a “proper” clean.
