Cleaner asked for wifi password

My cleaner had to bring her child with her on Thursday which i said was ok as she's a single mum and it must be difficult arranging childcare in the holidays. She asked for our wifi password so her daughter could watch cartoons whilst she worked which I can understand. My mum said I should change the password now. I don't think that's necessary but then it got me thinking, for those of you who have cleaners, do they have your wifi password? She's relatively new (2months) so it's not like I know her like a longstanding cleaner. She does 2 hours a week.

Maybe that's it then Eats. I know it sounds petty but we have gone over our allowance and that's never happened before. I have a cleaner as I'm disabled, we don't have spare cash so it's a real luxury - I go without other things to pay for a cleaner, I don't see why I should have to pay extra on top of my broadband bill so she can download excessive amounts in the two hours she's here. I just think she's taken the p*ss.

Yes, I think she’s taking the piss too. Even if your B.B. package was unlimited, it’s not hers, and she’s there to clean your house not download stuff. For those saying does it really matter, does your employer (shop, office, whatever) let you do this? I think it’s a misunderstanding of her role and her place in your home and I don’t think you’ll fix it by saying no to the WiFi. I’m a cleaner.

Thanks cleanerswin. It's good to get perspective from the other side as such and at least I know I'm not being unreasonable. It looks like I'm going to have to replace her as her cleaning has been ok but not great and I know she leaves 30-40 mins early when I'm not home, which I wouldn't mind if she'd done everything but she doesn't. Do you have any advice on finding a new cleaner @cleanerswin? Would you recommend going for an independent cleaner or a local company? Any advice appreciated.

It’s horses for courses. Recommendation is best whether a company or an individual. FWIW I wouldn’t ask to bring a child or allow a cleaner to bring one into my home. It’s work.

I'd change it!

How much could you realistically download in two hours? Surely it wouldn't be enough to increase a bill?

Last week it showed 12GB used that day. Both my husband and I were out all day, he didn't get in until the evening and we just did the usual of dinner, watch the news, maybe 45 mins on iPads then bed. We didn't update any of our devices or download anything.
That seems an awful lot - to put it into context, I have 12GB a month on my mobile and never really go over it unless I go away for a while without wifi.
