Condenser dry what am I doing wrong?

I’ve just moved into a rented flat with a Bosch condenser dryer. All it seems to do is heat clothes to boiling hot and steamy & he kitchen gets like a steam room but the clothes don’t dry for hours and hours by which grime I’ve given up and hung them around the flat.
What am I doing wrong?
I’ve cleaned the condenser bit and I empty the fluff and water after every use.

If it's an old one, it's possible that it's all linted up inside or a fan has gone.

Bixx · 03/04/2018 17:44

Hmmm. That shouldn’t happen. Particularly the bit about steam in your kitchen. Have you cleaned out the filter?

WhatAPigsEar · 03/04/2018 17:45

Ive cleaned the honeycomb type bit, is that what you mean by the filter?

Weird. Definitely shouldn’t happen.

Sounds like a stupid question but it is actually tumbling, right? It gets hot and tumbles the clothes round but they stay wet?

64BooLane · 03/04/2018 17:49

If you haven’t got a copy of the manual you can generally find most manuals online (Google the model number) - that should identify the filter/all the parts by name and suggest troubleshooting ideas.

I don’t have a Bosch admittedly but on my condenser dryer you can take a panel off the front of the machine to access a filter there (not the bit you get fluff out of after each cycle). I only learned this when mine started leaking water and I was googling what it could be. I found a tutorial on YouTube and fished loads of fluff and rubbish out.

WhatAPigsEar · 03/04/2018 17:50

It is tumbling & it gets really hot (I can’t even touch some of the clothes when I open it).
I really don’t want to have to get the LL to arrange an engineer

Does it drain the moisture through a hose or is there a drawer to empty?

ItStartedWithAKiss241 · 03/04/2018 17:52

At the bottom of the dryer at the front, is there a flip Down cover? Inside mine is a twisty bottle lid type thing and when I open it tons of water and dirt come out! You can empty it and it runs better after? X

WhatAPigsEar · 03/04/2018 17:52

I don’t have a manual but googling it is a good idea. Thanks. That will keep me busy this evening!

I also have a Bosch condensing dryer (washer-dryer). It's not as good as a tumble dryer, seems to make clothes hot rather than dry HOWEVER not to the extent you describe. Sorry I think it's faulty and needs seeing too.

WhatAPigsEar · 03/04/2018 17:54

There is a drawer to empty.
No twisty bottle lid but a honeycomb thing to pull out which had fluff in which I’ve rinsed out.
Off to google and you tube

There must be a container somewhere that the water condenses into and that needs emptying every time.

BikeRunSki · 03/04/2018 18:08

I had this problem, until DHpointed out that our condenser dryer was designed to take half the load of our washer. By splitting the washer load into 2, I’ve started getting dry drying.

LIZS · 03/04/2018 18:08

We found one with a drawer a pita, needed empty during the programme. Are you putting too much wet laundry in at once?

WhatAPigsEar · 04/04/2018 11:30

I’m going to try doing half loads today and see if it works

I've had several condenser dryers, and there is often a second, hidden filter somewhere that you have to clean out periodically. Really annoying. Definitely see if you can find a manual online.

Anythingforacatslife · 04/04/2018 11:37

Ours has a thing hidden underneath the panel at the bottom which comes out and needs rinsing, not the bit where the lint collects. If that is clogged up it won’t work.

Youradviceneeded · 04/04/2018 12:59

I have a Bosch condenser dryer. There are 3 things to empty. First, the drawer that collects all the water, this is at the top left of the front of my machine. Second, the lint compartment, this is just inside the door of mine, at 6 o clock. Third, the second lint compartment. This is at the front bottom left corner of mine.

WhatAPigsEar · 04/04/2018 20:36

Youradviceneeded that sounds similar to this one. How do you empty the bottom bit? Do you rinse it?

I get a normal table knife and carefully push it between the gaps to loosen all the sludge. It come out quite easily. I find it incredible how much comes out, it is really minging.

WhatAPigsEar · 05/04/2018 09:22

Thanks. Off to try that now
