Carpet cleaners

Has anyone got any recommendations for one of these? I'm about to hire a Rug Doctor for a couple of days but wondering if it's a better bet to actually buy my own cleaner. Are the ones you hire deeper cleaners?

All tips welcomed!

George wet and dry is the only one I've had that wasn't killed off by pet hairs.

Bissell proheat- had it about 10 years, wouldn’t be without it as cleans all our light coloured carpets great- especially with pretreatment spray. Has deep cleaned all carpets thoroughly here.

I've tried rug doctor. It was quite heavy.
I purchased a vax carpet cleaner, after my dog had severe tummy upset.
I thought I can't hire rug doctor; each time this happens. My dh was against it at first but he says now, it was one of my 'good' purchases. Because If she eats anything that's got gluten in we're in trouble Wink!

I have one of the vax ones (w90) it does do a good job of cleaning the carpet, but I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s such a pain to clean and as a result it’s ended up with a damp musty smell in the clean water compartment. My carpet always smells like that after a clean now! It’s a shame because otherwise it’s good.

Thanks everyone. I'm hiring a rug doctor next week while the kids are at my parents so will give that a go. I'd quite like to get a cleaner because I think I need to do the carpets little and often. Thanks for all your feedback.
